Telnet Command

When you have problems in sending or receiving emails, we recommend to first check port access directly via telnet. Ports can be closed for ex. by a firewall on your PC; or your broadband provider may block port 25. And if that's the case, you'll never be able to use email on your PC.

Windows 98/NT/2000/XP Telnet

Telnet on Windows is an easy process, outlined below is the steps that should be run if you wish to is a command which tells you if the connection between your computer and a particular domain is working correctly.

  1. In Windows XP, select Start.
  2. Then Select All Programs.
  3. Then Select Accessories. Then Select Command Prompt.
  4. Type in the command telnet followed by a space yourservername.tld (Ex. cc2.myhostapps.com) and portnumber (Ex.110 or 143 or 25) Hit Enter.
  5. Right click on the command prompt Select Edit.
  6. Then Select All.
  7. Again Right click on the command prompt Select Edit. Then Select Copy.
  8. Then Paste it into the notepad or word then Save it.
  9. Then Send Email with Attachment.

Windows Vista / Windows 7 Telnet

Telnet on newer versions of Windows is almost as easy as the earlier versions but due to Microsoft's security additions you must run the command prompt with administrator privileges.

  1. In Windows 7, select Start.
  2. Type cmd in search box hit Enter.
  3. Type in the command telnet followed by a space yourservername.tld (Ex. cc2.myhostapps.com) and portnumber (Ex.110 or 143 or 25) Hit Enter.
  4. Right click on the command prompt Select Edit.
  5. Then Select All.
  6. Again Right click on the command prompt Select Edit. Then Select Copy.
  7. Then Paste it into the notepad or word then Save it.
  8. Then Send Email with Attachment.

Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 Telnet

Telnet on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is a very easy process. Due to system security permissions, you must ensure that you run the command prompt as an administrator user.

  1. Ensure that you're on the Windows 8 Start Screen.
  2. Simply type cmd and the Windows search bar will appear on the right hand side with search results.
  3. Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
  4. Type in the command telnet followed by a space yourservername.tld (Ex. cc2.myhostapps.com) and portnumber (Ex.110 or 143 or 25)) Hit Enter.
  5. Right click on the command prompt Select Edit.
  6. Then Select All.
  7. Again Right click on the command prompt Select Edit. Then Select Copy.
  8. Then Paste it into the notepad or word then Save it.
  9. Then Send Email with Attachment.
